Global smartphone shipments and vendor rankings for Q3 2022

Recently, market research firm Canalys released its global smartphone report for the third quarter of 2022. The report points out that in the third quarter of this year, the global smartphone market suffered three consecutive quarters of decline, down 9% year-on-year, making it the worst-performing quarter since 2014. Needless to say, due to many factors such as the epidemic, market saturation and the global economic downturn, this year's mobile phone market is clearly not as good as previous years, and most mobile phone manufacturers are having a tough time and the overall situation is not optimistic.

Consumer demand is having a strong impact on smartphone market performance and vendors are adjusting quickly to the tough business environment," said a Canalys analyst. For most vendors, the immediate priority is to reduce the risk of inventory build-up amid deteriorating market demand. in July, vendors faced high-water mark inventory pressure, but sales conditions gradually improved from September onwards due to aggressive discounting and promotional activities. Manufacturers are taking a cautious approach to new product prices, as is Apple, to avoid strong consumer resistance, as consumers are now very sensitive to any slight price increases."

Specifically in the vendor rankings, Samsung remains in first place with a 22% market share, up 1% year-on-year, which is the only mobile brand with more than 20% share; in second place is Apple with 18% market share in hand, up 3% year-on-year, and this is with the iPhone 14 series essentially just released, which should improve next; Xiaomi is in third place, flat year-on-year, with It holds 14% market share, which makes it the number one domestic phone brand; OPPO and Vivo are in fourth and fifth place on the list with 10% and 9%, down 1% and 2% respectively year-on-year.
